OrbusVR announces new expansion, OrbusVR: Reborn
Overland Park, Kan. – August 13th, 2018 – Ad Alternum Game Studios today announced the development of OrbusVR: Reborn, the next iteration of its popular virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game (VRMMORPG), OrbusVR.
OrbusVR: Reborn is both the first expansion of the game as well as a complete re-working of existing content, with upgraded art assets, additional gameplay mechanics, new enemies and challenges, and a more interesting world to explore.
“After releasing OrbusVR into Early Access 8 months ago, we’ve spent our time refining the game and adding additional content such as 10-player raids, challenging shard dungeons, and quality of life features such as gear transmogs and mounts,” said Riley Dutton, Game Director. “At the same time, we knew that we wanted to go back and re-work major parts of the game to give us a better foundation to build on for the future. We think OrbusVR: Reborn is going to excite existing fans of the game as well as position us to keep improving well into the future.”
The original OrbusVR game has sold more than 35,000 copies across the Steam and Oculus stores, and is one of the best-selling VR games of 2018 according to Steam’s VR sales charts. More than 390,000 hours has been spent by players since the game’s launch playing in the world and completing activities from dragon pet breeding and fishing, to defeating bosses in underground crypts.
“With OrbusVR: Reborn, we have taken all of the feedback that we’ve received from the community to upgrade every aspect of the game. Better performance, gorgeous hand-painted visuals, re-designed avatars, new classes, advanced enemy tactics, a better tutorial, and a smoother leveling experience are all part of the package,” noted Robert Dutton, Producer.
OrbusVR: Reborn will feature a total of eight playable combat classes, including the new Bard class which conducts musical globes and the Shaman which summons totems and flings spells at enemies. Advanced enemy tactics including dodging incoming projectiles, running to seek help from nearby creatures, and choosing to rush the player or stay at range will all add to the challenge. There will be new raids and dungeons to complete, as well as many new in-game activities such as dragon pet racing and public events designed to bring players together throughout the world for key moments. And the new avatar system allows much greater customization than before.
“We see OrbusVR: Reborn as the fulfillment of our Early Access promise to the community. Too many games enter Early Access and never really make major improvements, or linger there so long that they’re all but forgotten. We’re making major upgrades to the game and will be leaving Early Access when OrbusVR: Reborn launches. As such, this is a free upgrade for anyone who has already purchased OrbusVR,” explained Riley Dutton.
OrbusVR: Reborn will release in Q1 2019, with beta testing to commence later this year for existing players. Any player who has purchased the existing OrbusVR game will receive OrbusVR: Reborn as a free upgrade. For more details, please see the game’s mini-site at https://orbusvr.com/reborn.
OrbusVR is the first MMO designed for room-scale virtual reality, enjoyed by tens of thousands of players around the world. The game utilizes a “buy once, play forever” game model, where after the base game is purchased there is no required subscription fee. Ongoing revenue is provided via an in-game cosmetic store with items for sale such as mounts and cosmetic pets, and future expansion content. There is no gameplay-affecting “pay to win” content for sale, and the game does not utilize loot boxes.
